Stand out episode – The Most Dysfunctional Family in America Part 1 and 2. This is about the Sexton family, where the father held horrible sway over the children and his wife. The father, Eddie Lee abused the children, and the mother let this happen, even helping in some cases. He was father to two children of his daughter. One of the other daughters, Shelley, eventually told the school about the abuse and they passed on the stories to DHS which this led to a standoff between Eddie Lee and DHS agents. It was settled when the authorities said they would take the agent off the case. Eddie Lee then fled with his remaining children, leaving some in DHS care. After they fled, the secrets began to become known. Eddie Lee left with his children and wife and moved out of Ohio to Indiana. The children worshipped their Dad, brainwashed by him. Soon one of the sons of the daughter Pixie and Eddie Lee, became sick and wouldn’t stop crying. Eventually Pixie suffocated the baby and they buried him near the camp site. Pixie’s husband, Joel, wanted to take his son back to Ohio for a proper burial and Eddie Lee warned Pixie that he might tell on them. This led to one of the sons killing Joel. There are mixed stories about who was there and what exactly happened. But Joel was killed with a garrotte and buried near the campsite. Eddie Lee told the children to tell anyone asking that Joel had taken them child back to Ohio with him. Eddie Lee kept calling the police to negotiate when Eddie Lee would surrender himself but he never did it. The FBI ended up tracing the calls and arrested him. The children were taken into care and eventually testified against their father, spilling all their secrets.
Lanie keeps you entirely spellbound during the whole story, informing you while keeping you entertained. Music is used as a good and unassuming accompaniment to the story. She has a lovely voice for storytelling. Overall, this is a fantastic podcast for all lovers of true crime.
