A Life Update + Current Faves

Hello, my friends!

I’m popping in real quick to just kind of…talk about what’s going on with me, personally, and why I have been very back and forth with my presence here. I have been dealing with a lot, a whole lot, and I’ve been working very hard to just kind of keep myself together. So let’s talk about that.

October is an exceptionally hard month for me. The 5th marked the nine year anniversary of my dad passing. The 15th marked two years since my grandfather passed. It’s very hard to cope with missing those you love very, very, very much. I do very well to cope with things as they come, but every year, these things hit me very hard.

I am also still dealing with the after-effects of my wreck, the surgery, and the pain. My hand does hurt fairly constantly; since I am a hairstylist, that makes things very difficult. I’m also struggling very much financially. Trying to maneuver the legal action we plan to take has become very taxing and emotionally draining. I just want all of this to be over.

Another new factor of my life is that I’m in my first semester of college. Yay, education! I am a full time student (granted, all of my classes are online, but still) and a vast majority of my free time (a.k.a. when I am not working) is spent working on school work. Except for this moment, when I should be studying for a history quiz tomorrow…eh. I deserve a break.

I have just been working very hard to make sure that I am keeping up in my day to day life; I am struggling a lot with my mental health at the moment (like always, it seems) and have been focusing on just making sure I’m as well prepared for anything as I can currently be. So thank you all for your patience with me, and just know I haven’t forgotten you guys. I feel guilty for not posting any new reviews lately, so I’m just going to take a quick moment to kind of go through my top favorites right now.

Super Critical Podcast

This podcast is one of my favorites. The tagline is “Overthinking Nuclear Pop-Culture.” Episodes center around movies, TV episodes, and other media that are related to the use of nuclear weapons. Tim Westmyer does an amazing job at breaking down media scene by scene and analyzing what’s going on. He always has amazingly brilliant guests on, as well, which makes it even more enjoyable in an incredibly, existentially horrifying way. There’s usually a new episode every month. I highly, highly recommend this podcast if you’re into movies about nuclear war – especially the episode on Threads, episode #16. Follow Tim’s podcast page on Twitter here.

Book YeAh

Book YeAh is a fairly new podcast that centers around young adult novels, which is kinda my jam. They have about six episodes so far, but I highly recommend. It genuinely feels like I’m sitting with a group of friends and talking books when I listen to this, and I am living for it. You can follow Book YeAh on Twitter here.

All Bad Things

No shocker here, you all know I’m obsessed with this podcast right now. (View previous review here.) I am morbidly obsessed with tragic accidents and things that go wrong. Their attention to detail is amazing, David’s humor is amazing, my being able to relate to Rachel because she’s a millennial is amazing. I just genuinely love this podcast and cannot stop listening to it. You can follow All Bad Things on Twitter here.

Those Conspiracy Guys

I love conspiracies. We all know I am all about some conspiracies. And, subsequently, I love podcasts about conspiracies. This one is extra good because it’s Irish. Also, it’s a good combination of paranormal, true crime, extra-terrestrial, and the unexplained. I love this podcast, it’s absolutely hilarious, but it’s also incredibly intriguing. You can follow Those Conspiracy Guys on Twitter here.

Which Murderer?

Along with conspiracies, I love true crime. Before I really got into podcasts, I thought true crime podcasts were the only kinds of podcasts that existed. I love Which Murderer? because it takes an intriguing look at murderers, their lives and deaths, and their victims. The hosts, Holly and Gemma, pick two murderers, share that information, and then kind of battle it out and debate which one they would preferred to be murdered by. I think the premise is so interesting, and I haven’t seen it before, so I immediately fell in love. You can follow Which Murderer? on Twitter here.

That’s gonna do it for me tonight. I hope you guys are all doing well. Thank you all so much for your patience! Love you all so much.
